Tips & support for Web 2.0 design, web hosting and development

When managing a web server log rotation should be one the main concerns when drive space is on the spot. It might not be such a concern when you have brand new server, but small sites can be quite a surprise through time, and then some… like when you have more than a 100 sites in a server and then have to activate log rotation manually on each and every one of them.
This log rotation issue is a matter of attention in any software for server management, but this note if for PLESK managed servers. Anyway CPANEL has its story as well but on a later post.
Ok, but let’s define, what is log rotation all about?
Ok. Here’s a quick & dirty definition: Log rotation is about removing all the unnecessary info logged at our servers (like CSS logs, images logs, JavaScript logs) that might count as a hit but they’re no big help anyway, ’cause… that kind of information, if you’re not hosting a Spy-fi agency, it will only make your files grow big and your hard disk will be huge fat before you know it… taking away valuable space.
Ok, a good maintenance practice will be and that bring us to…
THE GOLDEN TIP: A Daily log rotation will pretty much fit the needs for small-static web sites, setting them up by “size” is probably not a good choice. So just go plain and simple with Daily, unless otherwise specified of course.
